[It's New Year's Eve, fireworks are lighting up the night sky, and Whitlea is having the time of her life at the celebrations.
...okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. It's not that she hates dancing, really--this is just the first time she's been invited to something like this, though, and she's not quite sure how to act. The itchy dress she's wearing does not help matters one bit.
So she's decided to go out on the balcony for a sec, after hanging around the ball for a while and talking to other Trainers (and perhaps a few Champions from the other regions). She leans against the railing, looking out at the sky and simply enjoying the fireworks.
"I wish Cheren and Bianca were here," she thinks. "They'd definitely enjoy something like this."
But, alas, Cheren isn't here--he's too busy doing something to return her calls inviting him to the ball--and Bianca is late again. And N...well, she doesn't know where he is, and if he even likes fireworks. He liked the Ferris wheels just fine, though, so she feels somewhat sad about it.
She's so absorbed in her thoughts, she doesn't notice that someone else is on the balcony with her.]

Being New Year's Eve, there are a lot of couples at this kind of place, and that might go a long way towards explaining why Ami doesn't feel like being inside, in the middle of it. She turns as Whitlea comes outside, but only offers a nod before glancing upward again.]

So what do you think of the fireworks?

They're fine. [She also isn't given much to conversation; or perhaps the charms of things like fireworks have dimmed over a serious, driven life. But after another moment, she turns partway towards Whitlea.]
You were waiting for someone.

[She doesn't turn her attention from the fireworks as she speaks. Who knows, perhaps they're watching the same fireworks as she is, in different places. She takes a small comfort in that thought.]

It isn't the fireworks.

[They used to watch the fireworks, all together. Sometimes they still do, but without her friends around, Whitlea can't help but feel sad and nostalgic.]
It's part of the reason. The other is that I was invited, and I didn't really want to turn it down. And I was kind of looking forward to seeing a few friends again.
