northless[In the end, Robb scrapes together enough money to buy himself a second-hand car. He's hitchhiked before, after all, and he'd rather not repeat the experience if he can. Anyway, he's not going to leave Grey Wind behind, not if he can help it, so the dog takes up the backseat while the rest of his possessions ride shotgun.
When the car breaks down on the side of the road somewhere in Iowa, though, he finds himself regretting not stopping at a gas station or getting it checked out when he had the chance. He's already hours past his deadline, and the car breaking down on him is sure to make things even worse when he finally arrives in Las Vegas. Grey Wind, for his part, doesn't seem too bothered, even when Robb kicks the car out of frustration.
There's nothing for it, then. He'll have to hitchhike, and hope that whoever stops has enough space for a large dog and is willing enough to let one into their car.
